Story
I enjoyed my time on the Cabot Trail. I wanted to explore the trail more, but my vacation was coming to an end. There are a lot of observation areas at the top of the mountains. This picture was taken from one of them. For the drive home, I decided to take a direction I had never explored on the trail. I left the Inn at 10:30AM and the temperature was 3C (37F).

Lakie’s Head Look-off Coastline
Along the highway, I saw an interesting coastline. The name of the place is Lakies Head. I enjoyed staring at the rocky coastline and looking at the waves. I was very lucky to see a Bald Eagle in the sky. I had also seen a Double-crested Cormorant in the water.

After leaving Lakies Head I drove to Ingonish Beach. It was quiet on the beach and I was the only person there. There were a few Americans Crows that I managed to photograph.

Before leaving the parking lot, I had to take a picture of this gorgeous tree.

After leaving the beach, I decided to drive home. But after a short three minute drive, I saw a bunch of Canadian geese in this open field. I turned the car around and found a place to park. There had to be at least fifty geese or more; the majority of them were eating. Once I finished photographing the geese, I returned to the car and drove home. I consider this the best vacation I had in my life and I know I will visit that park again.

Lakie’s Head Look-off
A great spot to watch for whales breaching off shore. Depending on the season, the signs will either explain lobster fishing in the area or how to identify a particular kind of whale. Another panel identifies the sea birds that flit about the coastline. During lobster season, you can watch as fishermen haul up their traps and remove the tasty catch.

Ingonish Beach and Freshwater Lake
Salt water and freshwater. A sandy ocean beach is washed away each winter and re-deposited here each spring by the action of the waves. Over thousands of years, large cobblestones on the beach are worn round and smooth from being ground against one another by the action of the waves. A barachois composed of beach cobbles blocked off a cove centuries ago, cutting it off from the salty Atlantic Ocean. Cross the barachois to take a dip in warm Freshwater Lake.
Services: washrooms and change houses, a playground, a picnic area, tennis courts and a canteen during July and August. Surf guards are on duty at the saltwater beach during July and August. Dogs are not permitted in the supervised area of the beach.
